The Orb Collector

This painting was another pseudo dream painting. There were a few initial sketches where the “orb men” or “glib globs (a name recommended by one of my instagram followers)” were walking through the desert, but when it got to the canvas the composition dramatically changed. I decided to make them enter a cave to offer their orbs to a collector because the whole design made the painting have a palpable depth and intrigue to it that a simple march through the desert would not have provided. My goal with the painting was to drag the eye up the stairs to the blue and purple of the cave entrance and have it loop back down to the orb in the collector’s hand. The color scheme I chose was a muted but still very much psychedelic palette of cooler colors to underscore the vibrant warmth of the light from the orb men.
