Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse Paintings Then and Now
I have painted two renditions of The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, two years apart. It’s the same subject but each piece carries a significantly different energy. The first and most recent one in this article has a sense of impending doom and a much more haunting feel while the second, older piece carries a much more colorful and chaotic feel. The time spent on each piece was similar, but the more colorful piece was a fair bit larger but was created with quickly drying paints. A lot of time was spent on the newer one making the background work properly against the silhouettes of the horsemen. Overall this has shown me my own growth over the past year in terms of creating more impact with less. Evolving my style has given me freedom to explore more limited color palettes and make them perform more effectively as opposed to just throwing as much bright psychedelic color as I can on a canvas.
