Working with Slow Dry Acrylics

Coming from using acrylic gouache, the transition from about a 30 minute max dry time to having to wait overnight between layers has been quite an adjustment. There are a lot more things that can be done with slow drying acrylics technique wise, so I decided to bite the bullet. This is my first major piece using them entitled “Writhing Organ of the Woods”.

The glossiness is going to be difficult to photograph around, however I will be adding a satin varnish to my pieces moving forward to avoid too much shine.
