The Man in the box

The inspiration for this painting was the Alice in Chains song Man in the Box. Another nod in this painting was to the very famous painting by Edvard Munch called The Scream. When I was working on this acrylic painting I made a concerted effort to emulate depth on the figure. The overall goal was to create a very unnerving painting that illustrated the perceived confinement and near claustrophobia felt by the obstacles life gives us, as well as the invisible walls that I personally feel I am not capable of breaching. I decided to use a warm and red based color palette because I felt that the color red is a very familiar indicator for stress, and I used a tall canvas instead of the logical choice, a square because I felt adding that element of imbalance and confusion only serves to make the painting more nerve wracking. I feel overall my linework on it was fantastic. If I were to go back and do it again I would try out some other colors like a very extreme cold blue based palette just to see how that would perform. I will make canvas art prints available of it when I can, however I can make some art prints of it immediately upon request.
